La Maschera di Cera was founded in 2001 as a tribute to the sound of '70s Italian progressive rock, on the initiative of Fabio Zuffanti who gathered around him keyboardist Agostino Macor, drummer Marco Cavani (from his other band Finisterre), singer Alessandro Corvaglia and flutist Andrea Monetti.

They debuted in 2002, with a self-titled record, already displaying a great compositional and stylistic maturity,

The debut album "La Maschera di Cera" is here proposed in its entirety, along with "Dal caos" - borrowed from Finisterre - and a convincing version of Van Der Graaf Generator's "Darkness (11/11)".

La Maschera di Cera nasce nel 2001 come tributo al sound del rock progressivo italiano anni '70, su iniziativa di Fabio Zuffanti che raduna intorno a sé il tastierista Agostino Macor, il batterista Marco Cavani (di provenienza Finisterre), il cantante Alessandro Corvaglia e il flautista Andrea Monetti.

L'esordio avviene nel 2002, con un disco omonimo che evidenzia sin da subito una maturità compositiva e stilistica fuori dal comune.
Il debutto "La Maschera di Cera" è qui proposto per intero, insieme a "Dal caos" - preso in prestito dai Finisterre - e a una convincente versione di "Darkness (11/11)" dei Van Der Graaf Generator.

Mark Wingfield is always recommended listening for fans of Jazz or Fusion guitar (among the names usually dropped you'll find Alan Holdsworth, Terje Rypdal, Pat Metheny). Nevertheless, this isn't just pure Jazz. I seem to hear more traces of progressive rock than in his other recordings, but probably that's just an early impression... Carsten Pieper
