La Maschera di Cera was founded in 2001 as a tribute to the sound of ’70s Italian progressive rock, on the initiative of Fabio Zuffanti who gathered around him keyboardist Agostino Macor, drummer Marco Cavani (from his other band Finisterre), singer Alessandro Corvaglia and flutist Andrea Monetti.

After a self-titled debut (2002) that had been hailed as “the best Italian prog album since the Alphataurus era”, the even more complex and ambitious “Il grande labirinto” followed just one year later: La Maschera di Cera then managed to extend their live activity outside Italy.

This second volume of the “Live from the past” resumes the song “Del mio mondo che crolla” from the band’s first record, and contains three cuts from “Il grande labirinto”, including the complete 36-minute suite “Il viaggio nell’oceano capovolto”! The set ends with another tribute to the giants of British progressive rock, with the cover version of King Crimson’s “In the wake of Poseidon”.

La Maschera di Cera nasce nel 2001 come tributo al sound del rock progressivo italiano anni ’70, su iniziativa di Fabio Zuffanti che raduna intorno a sé il tastierista Agostino Macor, il batterista Marco Cavani (di provenienza Finisterre), il cantante Alessandro Corvaglia e il flautista Andrea Monetti.

All’omonimo esordio del 2002, salutato come “il miglior album di prog italiano dai tempi degli Alphataurus”, segue immediatamente l’ancor più ambizioso e complesso “Il grande labirinto”, che consente alla band di portare la propria musica dal vivo anche all’estero.

Questo secondo volume della serie “Live from the past” riprende dal primo album il brano “Del mio mondo che crolla”, e dei tre estratti da “Il grande labirinto”, tra cui l’intera suite “Il viaggio nell’oceano capovolto” di quasi 40 minuti! Chiude il set un altro omaggio a dei mostri sacri del prog inglese, la cover di “In the wake of Poseidon” dei King Crimson.
